Novice Courses


The computing laboratory at the LCO provides networked access to the in-house training facilities and the Internet.

The centre offers a wide range of computing activities for novices to Linux, with four courses designed to cover the most essential knowledge areas. From Basic System Installation, through fundamental command skills, to Advanced office applications for those wishing to move away from proprietary software, and web development using the free open-source software tools available on GNU/Linux systems.

Prerequisites
As a "Beginner" you are expected to have a basic literacy in IT, i.e. Ability to use a keyboard, an understanding of file systems, and practical experience with some of the following types of software packages - word processing, graphic image manipulation, web browser, and email.
