Linux Installation

A beginner's workshop aimed at those who wish to learn the advantages and benefits of GNU/Linux. Participants will install and base configure a system ready for desktop use.
On completion of this workshop, participants will be able to install a PC with a fully functional desktop system that includes a selective range of OpenSource applications. They will have also gained the basic skills needed to be able to use and improve their knowledge of a GNU/Linux system.

- Set-Up/Administration Tools (YAST)
- Selection of Applications.
- Hardware configuration.
- What is a root user?
- Configuring X-windows.
- Choice of Window Manager
- Dual-booting and log-ins.
An ideal starter for those with little or no experience of GNU/Linux and who wish to discover the current capabilities of the system for themselves in an environment where the system is in use 24/7.
